A Wheelchair: How an Act of Kindness Changed Julian’s World

ACT-OF-KINDNESS (3)

Corporate Social Investment is often measured by the projects completed or the funds raised, but its greatest impact is found in the lives it changes. Recently, Robertson House celebrated one such moment when resident Julian Peters received a new wheelchair, made possible by the generosity of Auguste (Gusti) Coetzer from People Power Placements (P3).

Rather than simply presenting the wheelchair to Robertson House, we marked the occasion with a special celebration, bringing together residents to officially welcome Julian’s new wheelchair to the home. It was a joyful reminder that even a single act of kindness can make a lasting difference.

Residents and friends gathered to share in Julian’s excitement, while staff reflected on the importance of partnerships that make these life-changing moments possible. The atmosphere was filled with smiles, gratitude and a genuine sense of community.

Robertson House has long been dedicated to providing a safe, supportive and caring environment for adults living with physical disabilities. The home focuses on creating opportunities for residents to live with dignity, independence and a sense of belonging. Every donation received contributes directly to improving the quality of life for those who call Robertson House home.

For someone who relies on a mobility aid, a wheelchair is far more than a piece of equipment. It provides freedom, comfort and independence, making everyday activities easier and allowing greater participation in community life. For Julian, his new wheelchair represents improved mobility and the opportunity to continue enjoying daily life with greater confidence.

Corporate Social Investment is at its most powerful when it addresses real needs. While large-scale initiatives often receive attention, it is often these deeply personal contributions that have the greatest impact.

For Robertson House, partnerships with businesses are essential in helping the organisation continue its work. Every contribution, whether through financial support, donated equipment or volunteering, enables the home to provide the highest standard of care while creating opportunities for residents to thrive.

Robertson House extends its sincere appreciation to Gusti Coetzer and People Power Placements for making this special moment possible. Her generosity has provided far more than a wheelchair; it has restored independence and brought joy to an entire home.

Keeping in mind that sometimes the most meaningful acts of giving are not the biggest. Sometimes they begin with recognising a need, taking action and changing one person’s world.
